Back in late ’09 I was blessed with an opportunity to teach at Aaron Keyes’ worship school at which I met a young worship leader named David Dalton. Little did I know that our paths would cross again when I guest-led worship at Grace Fellowship Church in Snellville, GA, and Grace Midtown in downtown Atlanta, GA. This past Thanksgiving he submitted a partial verse to me, which immediately inspired me to write a whole song. He pointed out that my first attempt at a chorus just didn’t quite warrant the song, and sent me the first 2 lines of a new possible chorus, which I expanded, re-working the original chorus into a half-timed bridge. A few minor changes and a little outside input later, and we had “Your Mighty Hand”.
Honestly, this is my “theme song” right now. I’ve always wanted to write one like it, reminding me of many of my favorites: Matt Redman’s “Blessed be Your Name” and “You Never let Go”, and Chris McClarney’s “Your Love Never Fails” – and it medlies well with all three. Given the down economy and the struggles we are all facing (I am not alone, right?), this song is an encouragement to me. I’ve led it now at 6 different churches/ministries, and I’ve been shocked at how quickly I hear voices from the room singing it back to me, which blesses me so much that I just have to share it with the rest of you.
Below you’ll find a teaching video of the song, followed by a fairly unrehearsed live taping, and chord charts in various keys. Give it a listen, and if you like it, try it at your own church. The song is currently being process by CCLI so that information is forthcoming.
