SUNDAY SETLISTS #191: WECC The Lighthouse 89.3 Worship Concert

Posted March 22nd, 2012 by admin with 2 Comments

This blog post is my rather unorthodox participation in “Sunday Setlists” at The Worship Community.

After a nightmarish sound-check (no fault of the excellent audio crew), we had to remove some gear after sound-check to attempt to repair it before our set actually began.  Thankfully, God enabled us to keep calm while calling in “experts”, & everything was working properly by about 15 minutes before stage-time.

WECC The Lighthouse 89.3fm are a local Christian station that are HUGE supporters of what we are doing as Saint Lewis, & this is our yearly opportunity to encourage them in return.  In years past we’ve fallen into the “concert trap”, viewing this more as a “show” than a worship service – this year I repented of that, & from the first strum of my guitar we dove in deep.

Slowly, the crowds – at first eating hotdogs, conversing with friends on the perimeter, & looking at the merch tents – began to draw together stage-front, & before long a large group of people were gathered, hands raised towards the stars, voices ringing out – even during our originals.  This was our set…

  1. Like a Lion” – Daniel Bashta
  2. Your Mighty Hand” (Original) [D.Dalton, S. Lewis] / “Our God” [C. Tomlin, M. Redman, et al] MEDLEY
  3. Set a Fire” – Will Reagan & United Pursuit
  4. Your Will” (Original) – Gary Durbin, Shannon Lewis, McKendree Augustas, & Bobby Gilles
  5. Lavish your Love” [B. Smith, P. Barrett, & A. Keyes] / “I am not the Same” [B. Smith, P. Barrett, A. Keyes, & M. Redman] – MEDLEY
  6. Don’t want to get over You” (Original) [D. Walker, & S. Lewis]
  7. Rocks will Cry” (Original) [Nikki Southers] – lead vocal by Nikki
  8. Wandering Heart” (Original) [S. Lewis, & C. Lewis]
  9. How He Loves” [J.M. McMillan]

A few highlights were:

  • This was by-far the ‘best’, most passionate, & high energy version of “Your Mighty Hand” we’ve ever played since recording it back August/September, & it was so encouraging to see people truly worshiping with a song that we penned.
  • Introducing our backing vocalist & drummer’s original song “Rocks will Cry”, & hearing the band make it our own… such a powerful tune!
  • Closing with “Wandering Heart”, hearing every voice chanting “Revive my heart, awaken my soul”, as the breakers were tripped & all the power – lights, audio, EVERYTHING – went out… voices raised in the dark, open night sky, as we all continued praising, completely unplugged.

Usually these sorts of events are frustrating, or at best a labor of love – this was not.  Instead, it was a genuine meeting with God.

I believe I learned some things on Friday: trust in the face of defeat; worship, don’t perform; & when the power goes out, KEEP RIGHT ON SINGING.

So be it!

Gee, that picture looks awfully familiar….. LOL. Out of all the photos I took that night and Saturday, that one came out the best. You guys were fantastic, along with all the other worshipping musicians. It truly was a time of worshipping and praising God for what He has done for and through WECC, and for what we are believing he is going to do. WECC is so much more than just a radio station. It is truly a God-honoring, Kingdom-building ministry. May God richly bless you guys and I hope to be able to see you here again soon!

Ooops… I credited you for it on Facebook, but forgot to here… so sorry. Yeah, it was a GREAT photo, & I was looking ALL OVER for one, so that was a blessing! Thanks for posting it! And yes, WECC are like family to us… I’m actually suggesting a possible future fund-raiser for them in Jacksonville… pray!
