Have I told you how much I love the Gathering Place?
Late Summer, 2002, I was touring the midwest in support of my CD at the time, when I received an urgent call. I needed to immediately make my way to St. Simons – an island off of coastal Georgia (at the time I didn’t know Georgia HAD a coast), between Savannah, GA & Jacksonville, FL. My job for the Summer?: Worldwide Discipleship Association had assigned me to oversee/disciple the college-aged guy Summer interns when the current leader had to leave due to a family emergency. I had no idea what I was in for!
Not only did I meet my future (now present) wife, Cyle Augusta, & in-laws, & get a taste for where I would very-soon-after call “home”, but I experienced my FIRST “Main Event”. My jaw was on the floor – I’d never seen anything like it!
There were 1200+ kids from area churches of every denomination from Roman Catholic to Pentecostal gathered together in one room, playing games, laughing at skits, hearing a Gospel message, & worshiping together. The rest of the year long I saw them discipling youth in small groups & helping new believers plug into the local church.
Since that first Summer, I have served as a GP worship team volunteer for 5 years, then as Worship Director for 3 – sometimes leading from stage – but more often directing youth leaders from behind-the-scenes (which is the GP way). I passed it off to “fresh blood” back in 2011, but there’s not a Sunday in the Summer that I don’t miss it – again, I LOVE THE GATHERING PLACE!
That’s why I & the Saint Lewis band were so honored & overjoyed by the invitation to play live recently at the Pre-Event, & lead a Call-to-Worship opening song at the Gathering Places’ Main Event!
Our set-list is available HERE as a Spotify Playlist, however iMintMedia captured some quality live footage accompanied by a surprisingly clean board mix of our special, original song, “When this Day Ends”, which opened the Main Event. We were honored to be joined by friend & local worship pastor (& the current Worship Director of the Gathering Place), Russ Hutto on keys. I pray the footage blesses you. By the way, did I mention that I LOVE THE GATHERING PLACE?!
